THE FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL AT STOKES BAY

"New Date for Licensing Meeting 0930 on 24th June at Explosion Museum Please Try and Be There"

An application for permission to stage a Traditional Folk Festival at Stokes Bay between the 31st July and 4th August was received by the Council on the 15th January.  The Applicant was Hampshire Festivals and Wickham Festivals Ltd. And the application was signed by Peter Chegwyn.

The application was placed before an Emergency Sub-Board on the 18th February.  There was no public consultation and the public were not allowed to speak at the meeting.

At the meeting it was pointed out that there was no "Limited Company" registered in the name of Hampshire and Wickham Festivals Ltd.  It was also noted that Mr Chegwyn's licence to run the festival at Wickham was to be reviewed by Winchester City Council – as reported in the News dated 11.2.08.  It was noted that the hire cost for the land for approximately nine days would be £5000 but there was no discussion on the appropriateness of this charge, nor was there any discussion on the costs of policing the event or obtaining the necessary licence for it.

The application was approved, despite these short comings, by the Chairman's casting vote.  Approval in principle was given to Hampshire Festivals Ltd – a company that did not exist at the time.

On the 4th March the names Ragstone Developments Ltd. was changed to Wickham Festivals Ltd.  Mr Chegwyn is a director of both organisations.

The Council has applied for a premises licence to run licensable activities on this site between 1000 and 2300 on Mondays to Saturdays and from 1100 to 2300 on Sundays.  These activities to take place on a total of 4 days each year between 1st June and 31st October, as agreed with the Gosport Council.  The site will be open to visitors between 0900 and 0000.

The Licensing Authority meeting to consider this application will be held between 13th and 30th May.  Should you wish to object to the application please write to the Environmental Services Manager at the Town Hall.  The grounds on which you can object are:-
